It's hard to imagine that anything has improved in the Lawley Township since the days when Mahatma Gandhi made it his home. On this day, though, we hoped to assist at least 12 families with a week's worth of supplies, as well as to be increase our understanding of the problems faced by those whose abject poverty restricts their chances of making a better life for themselves and their families. |

is Fequila. She's the leader of the Community Health Workers in Lawley. Without Fequila
& the CHW's, the people of Lawley would have little assistance.

are the Community Health Workers in Lawley. They are very humble people. They know being
caregivers in their community makes a difference.

Song
and dance are often the only things they have to show their thanks for assistance. Today
is no different, as the workers sing and dance. They even wrote a song specifically to
sing to us.

This
is Alice, a Community Health volunteer in Lawley. She's had AIDS since 1985. She says that
she was on the verge of suicide when Cora convinced her that her life had meaning and

This
little boy just "showed up" one day - so Alice took him in. Government rules
require that his status be evaluated after 6 months, after which time Alice may be awarded
guardianship of him - as Alice puts it - forever. Alice says "I may have AIDS, but I
have so much love to give". Listen to what Alice said
